Starkey Edge AI — Freehold, NJ
One Year as Starkey's Best. Still One of the Most Capable Hearing Aids Available.
Your Everyday Edge

From October 2024 to October 2025, the Starkey Edge AI was the most advanced hearing aid Starkey had ever built — the company's flagship, its best-reviewed platform, and the device that earned Starkey a HearAdvisor A SoundGrade and Expert Choice Award in independent laboratory testing. When the Omega AI launched in October 2025, it succeeded the Edge AI as the new flagship. What it did not do is make the Edge AI obsolete.
The Edge AI still delivers 13 dB SNR improvement in noise from Edge Mode+, fall detection, Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, 51-hour battery life on the rechargeable RIC RT model, and the G2 Neuro Processor — Starkey's second-generation neural processing platform with 100 times the DNN processing power of the previous Genesis AI generation. For patients who want strong AI-driven performance and the core Starkey health feature set at a typically more accessible price than the current Omega AI, the Edge AI remains a serious and well-validated clinical choice.
The G2 Neuro Processor — Fourth Generation DNN Technology
The Edge AI runs on Starkey's G2 Neuro Processor — a chip with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) purpose-built for the demands of real-time AI sound processing. The G2 represents Starkey's fourth generation of deep neural network hearing technology, and it delivered meaningful measurable improvements over the previous Genesis AI platform — 100 times the DNN processing power and 30% better speech accuracy in Starkey's published performance testing.
The DNN inside the G2 Neuro Processor is integrated into the main chip rather than running on a separate dedicated processor — which distinguishes the Edge AI's architecture from the Omega AI's G3 Gen AI Neuro Processor, where DNN 360 runs on a separate dedicated chip. The integrated approach is capable and efficient. The dedicated chip approach in the Omega AI adds processing depth specifically for the most demanding noise environments. For moderate to significant listening challenges, the G2's integrated DNN handles them well. For patients who regularly face the most extreme noise environments, the Omega AI's dedicated AI layer provides additional capability.
Neuro Sound Technology 2.0 and Edge Mode+
Neuro Sound Technology 2.0 — the G2's automatic processing engine — classifies the acoustic environment in real time and adjusts the hearing aids' directionality, noise reduction, and sound shaping continuously and automatically. Version 2.0 reflects the improved accuracy and speed of the G2 platform compared to the original Neuro Sound Technology — smoother transitions, faster environment detection, and better separation of speech from background noise across a wider range of listening conditions.
Edge Mode+ is the feature that defines the Edge AI's performance story. When automatic processing needs to go further — when the environment is genuinely difficult and the wearer needs maximum speech clarity immediately — a single tap activates Edge Mode+ and applies up to 13 dB SNR improvement in noise and 6 dB extra noise reduction in low-level noise environments. These are not marketing numbers — they are figures backed by Starkey's DNN testing and reflect the real-world impact of the G2 NPU working at maximum output.
For context: 13 dB SNR improvement is a clinically substantial gain. Most patients need approximately 6 dB of SNR improvement to shift from struggling to comfortable understanding in a noisy environment. The Edge AI's Edge Mode+ provides more than twice that on demand.
Battery Life — Industry-Leading Performance
Battery life is one of the Edge AI's strongest practical arguments — and it has not been surpassed in the current Starkey lineup.
-
mRIC R style: Up to 41 hours per charge
-
RIC RT style: Up to 51 hours per charge — with telecoil included
51 hours of rechargeable battery life on a device running a full-time deep neural network represents genuine engineering achievement. A patient who charges their Edge AI RIC RT overnight consistently will essentially never run out of charge during the day — even on the longest or most active days. For patients who have battery anxiety around rechargeable devices, the Edge AI's performance largely eliminates that concern.
For patients who prefer disposable batteries, the Edge AI is also available in the RIC 312 model, which uses standard 312 zinc-air batteries changed approximately once per week with 16 hours per day use.
Styles and Options
The Edge AI is available in multiple styles to accommodate a range of hearing losses, lifestyle priorities, and form factor preferences:
mRIC R — The smallest rechargeable Edge AI. At 2.3 grams, one of the lightest hearing aids in its class. Up to 41 hours per charge. The most discreet behind-the-ear option and the most popular style.
RIC RT — Rechargeable RIC with telecoil. Up to 51 hours per charge. The right choice for patients who regularly use hearing loop systems and want both Bluetooth and telecoil in one rechargeable device.
RIC 312 — Disposable battery RIC using standard 312 zinc-air batteries. For patients who prefer replaceable batteries over rechargeable.
Technology Levels
The Edge AI is available across multiple technology levels — from a standard tier appropriate for moderate everyday listening challenges to an advanced tier that runs the G2 Neuro Processor at maximum processing strength. Higher tiers provide greater noise reduction precision, more fine-tuning channels, and stronger automatic environment classification. Dr. Haynie will recommend the appropriate tier based on your specific audiogram and the listening environments you encounter most regularly.
Connectivity — Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast
The Edge AI was built on Bluetooth LE Audio — Starkey's forward-looking connectivity choice that positions it for the expanding ecosystem of LE Audio compatible devices and venues. Direct streaming from compatible iOS and Android smartphones delivers phone calls, music, podcasts, and audio to both hearing aids simultaneously. Hands-free calling is supported on compatible iOS devices.
As of the January 2026 firmware update, Auracast broadcast audio is fully enabled on the Edge AI via the My Starkey app — allowing wearers to receive direct audio from Auracast-equipped public venues including theaters, houses of worship, airports, and conference facilities. This firmware update was provided free to all existing Edge AI wearers and is included in all new fittings.
The RIC RT model includes a telecoil alongside Bluetooth connectivity — providing compatibility with hearing loop systems for patients who regularly attend looped venues. Having both Bluetooth streaming and telecoil in a single rechargeable device is a practical combination that not all platforms offer.
Edge AI vs. Omega AI and G Series AI — Where It Fits
vs. Omega AI — The Omega AI runs the G3 Gen AI Neuro Processor with DNN 360 Directionality, the Gen AI Smart Assistant, TeleHear AI, respiratory rate monitoring, Push to Talk, and Balance Builder. It is Starkey's current flagship with more sophisticated processing and a fuller health feature set. The Edge AI delivers comparable core performance — 13 dB SNR improvement, fall detection, Auracast, class-leading battery — at a typically more accessible investment.
vs. G Series AI — The G Series AI runs the Genesis S1 chipset with Friendly AI directionality — capable automatic processing but without the G2 Neuro Processor's DNN depth or Edge Mode+'s 13 dB SNR capability. The Edge AI provides meaningfully stronger speech-in-noise performance and includes fall detection and health monitoring features not available on the G Series AI. The G Series AI is the right choice for patients whose listening challenges are moderate. The Edge AI is the right choice for patients who need stronger noise performance at a lower investment than the Omega AI.
Is the Edge AI Right for You?
The Edge AI is most suited for adults with mild to severe hearing loss who want strong AI-driven speech-in-noise performance — the 13 dB SNR improvement from Edge Mode+ addresses genuinely difficult listening environments — alongside fall detection, Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, and the longest available battery life in a Starkey RIC, at a typically lower price than the current Omega AI flagship. Patients who want a telecoil in a rechargeable Starkey RIC will find the RIC RT a strong option. Patients who want a well-validated, proven platform with a HearAdvisor A Grade and one year as Starkey's best-reviewed device.
The Edge AI is not the right choice for patients who want the Omega AI's exclusive features — DNN 360 Directionality, Gen AI Smart Assistant, TeleHear AI, respiratory rate monitoring, or Push to Talk. Patients who want the newest flagship platform. Patients whose listening challenges are moderate and whose budget allows for the G Series AI — the Edge AI's additional processing depth may be more than their situation requires.
