Signia Silk Charge&Go IX — Freehold, NJ

The World's First Rechargeable Instant-Fit Completely-in-Canal Hearing Aid

Click. Fit. Go.

Signia Silk IX Hearing Aids

For decades, patients who wanted a completely-in-canal hearing aid — a device that sits entirely inside the ear canal and is invisible in most ears — had to accept two limitations: disposable batteries that needed weekly replacement, and a custom ear impression that added weeks of manufacturing time before the first fitting. You could have discretion, or you could have modern convenience. Not both.

The Signia Silk Charge&Go IX changes both of those trade-offs simultaneously. It is the world's first rechargeable instant-fit completely-in-canal hearing aid — and it won the CES 2024 Best of Innovation Award for exactly that reason. No ear impression. Same-day fitting. Rechargeable battery lasting up to 28 hours. Full Signia Integrated Xperience processing. In a device that is nearly invisible in most ears.

It is not the right device for every patient — the limitations are real and worth understanding clearly before choosing it. But for the right patient, it removes every practical obstacle that has historically stood between patients who want invisibility and the modern hearing aids that can deliver it.

No Ear Impression — Same-Day Fitting

Traditional custom in-the-ear hearing aids require an ear impression — a process that involves filling the ear canal with a soft material to create a precise mold, sending that mold to a laboratory, and waiting one to three weeks for the custom shell to be manufactured and returned for fitting. This multi-appointment timeline is one of the practical barriers that causes patients to delay or abandon the process of getting a custom device.

The Silk Charge&Go IX uses a completely different approach: EarWear 3.0 Click Sleeves — soft, medical-grade silicone tips that conform to the shape of the ear canal without a custom mold. The device arrives in a range of tip sizes, and the fitting audiologist selects the size that fits most comfortably and securely in the patient's specific canal. The fitting happens on the same day as the evaluation, with no impression, no laboratory wait, and no second appointment required for the device to be ready.

For patients who have previously been told custom devices take several weeks and have found that timeline a deterrent — the Silk eliminates the wait entirely. For patients who want to walk in, be evaluated, and walk out with hearing aids on the same day — the Silk makes that possible.

Custom molds are also available as an option for patients who prefer a more tailored fit or need a stronger acoustic seal — available as an add-on at the fitting appointment.

Nearly Invisible — In Most Ears

The Silk Charge&Go IX sits entirely inside the ear canal. It is not a device that peeks out at the canal opening — in most patients, it is completely invisible from any normal viewing angle, with only the removal handle visible at the entrance to the canal when the ear is examined closely.

The device is available in two colors — mocha and black — with a soft textured surface finish that reduces light reflection for added visual discretion. For patients whose primary motivation for choosing the Silk is invisibility, the matte texture ensures the device does not catch light in the way a glossy shell would.

Not all ear canal anatomies accommodate the Silk equally. Some ear canals are too narrow or too angled for the device to seat correctly. A physical examination of the ear canal at the fitting appointment confirms candidacy before any commitment — an important step that no remote or online hearing aid provider can replicate.

The IX Platform in a CIC Shell

The Silk Charge&Go IX runs the full Signia Integrated Xperience platform — the same dual-stream AI processing that powers the Pure Charge&Go IX and Styletto IX. The IX platform provides automatic environment detection, speech enhancement, background noise management, and Own Voice Processing 2.0 — all running on the IX chip inside a device smaller than most people expect when they hear the phrase "AI-powered hearing aid."

Own Voice Processing 2.0 is particularly meaningful in a CIC device. Completely-in-canal hearing aids have historically produced significant occlusion effect — a boomy, plugged-up quality to the wearer's own voice that many patients find deeply unpleasant. OVP 2.0 processes the wearer's own voice on a separate audio stream, addressing the occlusion experience directly and delivering more natural own-voice comfort than a standard CIC amplification approach provides.

What the Silk Does Not Include — The Honest Trade-offs

Three limitations of the Silk Charge&Go IX are important enough to address directly before a patient considers this device:

No Bluetooth audio streaming. The Silk's completely-in-canal shell is too small to physically accommodate Bluetooth radio hardware. This means there is no direct audio streaming from a smartphone, no hands-free calling, no music or podcast streaming to the hearing aids, and no television audio streaming. For patients who use hearing aids primarily to improve face-to-face communication and do not stream audio from their phone, this limitation may not matter. For patients who regularly stream calls, music, podcasts, or television — the Silk is not the right device. The Pure Charge&Go IX and Styletto IX both provide full Bluetooth streaming.

Mild to moderate hearing loss only. The Silk's CIC form factor limits the available amplification range. It is appropriate for patients with mild to moderate hearing loss. Patients with moderately severe, severe, or profound hearing loss fall outside the Silk's fitting range and require a different form factor.

HearAdvisor B Grade — 3.6 out of 5. In independent HearAdvisor laboratory testing, the Silk Charge&Go IX earned a SoundScore of 3.6 out of 5 — a B Grade. For context, the Pure Charge&Go IX earned an A Grade and ranked in the top 10% of all hearing aids tested, and the Styletto IX earned an A Grade ranking 5th out of 36. HearAdvisor describes the Silk as performing similarly to other flagship prescription hearing aids from major manufacturers for its category — a respectable result for a CIC device — with particular strength in speech clarity in quiet settings. The lower SoundScore compared to the RIC models reflects the acoustic limitations inherent to the CIC form factor rather than a processing deficiency.

Battery Life — 28 Hours in a CIC

The Silk Charge&Go IX delivers up to 28 hours of battery life per charge — an achievement that is more significant in context. Previous CIC hearing aids all used disposable batteries — typically size 10 zinc-air cells with approximately 3 to 7 days of life depending on use. Managing weekly battery replacement in a tiny device many patients struggle to grip is a routine frustration for CIC wearers.

The Silk's 28-hour rechargeable battery replaces that routine with an overnight charge that covers the full following day without any battery handling. The pocket-sized charging case holds up to 4 additional full charges and supports Qi wireless charging — place the case on a Qi pad rather than plugging in a cable, which is a practical convenience for patients who use wireless charging for their other devices.

The charging case itself is notable. It is small enough to sit comfortably in a shirt pocket, and its Qi compatibility means patients who already have a wireless charging pad on their nightstand can simply set the case there overnight without adding a new charging cable to their routine.

Technology Levels — 7IX, 5IX, and 3IX

The Silk Charge&Go IX is available in three technology levels — 7IX, 5IX, and 3IX — matching the Pure Charge&Go IX tier structure. Higher tiers provide greater processing depth, more fine-tuning channels, and stronger automatic environment classification. For a CIC device with mild to moderate hearing loss candidates, the differences between tiers are most meaningful in environments with moderate competing noise. Dr. Haynie will recommend the appropriate tier based on your specific audiogram and listening demands.

The Signia App — Remote Control Without Streaming

While the Silk cannot stream audio, it does connect to the Signia One app for remote control. Volume adjustment, program switching, and access to the Signia Assistant AI for sound customization between appointments are all available through the app.

The app connection uses a low-power wireless protocol rather than Bluetooth audio — allowing the control functionality without the physical space requirements of Bluetooth radio hardware.

Is the Silk Charge&Go IX Right for You?

The Silk is most suited for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss who prioritize near-invisibility above all other considerations, who want a same-day fitting without an ear impression or laboratory wait, who want rechargeable convenience without weekly disposable battery replacement, and who do not need Bluetooth audio streaming. Patients who have previously avoided hearing aids because they felt visible or conspicuous — or who have been told custom devices take weeks — will find the Silk removes the barriers that have kept them from addressing their hearing.

The Silk is not the right choice for patients who regularly stream phone calls, music, podcasts, or television directly to their hearing aids — there is no Bluetooth streaming capability. Patients with moderately severe, severe, or profound hearing loss fall outside the Silk's fitting range. Patients who want the highest independently verified performance scores — the Pure Charge&Go IX and Styletto IX both carry HearAdvisor A Grades compared to the Silk's B Grade. Patients whose ear canal anatomy does not accommodate the device — confirmed at the examination appointment.

The Fitting — What to Expect at Haynie Audiology

The Silk Charge&Go IX offers a distinctly different fitting experience from any other hearing aid we fit —  no impression, no laboratory wait:

  1. Comprehensive hearing evaluation — complete audiogram confirming the Silk's fitting range is appropriate for your hearing loss degree and type

  2. Ear canal examination — confirming the canal size, shape, and anatomy accommodate the Silk's CIC form factor comfortably

  3. Click Sleeve size selection — fitting the appropriate EarWear 3.0 tip for your specific canal, with real ear measurement verification confirming the Silk is delivering the right amplification at the eardrum

  4. Real ear measurement verification — essential for CIC devices where the position of the receiver in the canal directly affects frequency response

  5. OVP and IX calibration — optimizing the automatic processing for your audiogram

  6. Signia app setup — volume and program control, Signia Assistant configuration, TeleCare remote care activation
