Oticon Intent Hearing Aids — Freehold, NJ

A fundamentally different approach to hearing — expertly fit and verified with Real Ear Measurement at our Freehold office.

The World's First Hearing Aid That Understands What You're Trying to Hear

Oticon Intent hearing aids

Most hearing aids react to sound. The Oticon Intent does something fundamentally different — it reads your behavior.

Launched in February 2024 and built on Oticon's purpose-built Sirius processing platform, the Intent is the world's first hearing aid equipped with 4D Sensor technology — a four-dimensional sensing system that monitors your head movement, body movement, conversation activity, and acoustic environment simultaneously to understand what you are actively trying to listen to. It then adjusts its sound processing in real time to support exactly that — not what a generic algorithm assumes, but what you as an individual are actually doing in that moment.

The result is a hearing experience that feels less like wearing technology and more like your hearing is simply working the way it should.

What 4D Sensor Technology Actually Does

Traditional hearing aids detect sound and process it. The Intent detects sound and detects you.

The four dimensions the Intent monitors continuously are:

Head movement — Are you turning toward someone to engage in conversation? Are you scanning a room? Your head position carries information about your listening intent that no previous hearing aid has been able to read.

Body movement — Are you stationary in a conversation, or moving through an environment? A person standing still talking to a colleague has different listening needs than a person walking through a crowded event. The Intent recognizes this distinction and adjusts accordingly.

Conversation activity — Is speech actively happening around you? The Intent detects the presence and direction of conversational speech and prioritizes accordingly — without narrowing the sound environment to a single beam the way aggressive directional systems do.

Acoustic environment — What does the space around you actually sound like? Quiet office, noisy restaurant, outdoor event, reverberant lecture hall — each demands a different processing approach, and the Intent identifies and responds to each in real time.

By combining inputs on head motion, body movement, conversation activity and acoustic environment, the Intent understands precisely what users need and want to listen to, then seamlessly adjusts the hearing support it provides.

Deep Neural Network 2.0 and MoreSound Intelligence 3.0

The 4D sensors are the input layer. What processes that input is equally important.

The Intent runs on Deep Neural Network 2.0 — Oticon's second-generation AI, trained on over 12 million real-world sounds. This DNN runs continuously and always-on, analyzing the incoming sound environment and distinguishing speech from noise with greater precision than any previous Oticon platform.

MoreSound Intelligence 3.0 orchestrates how DNN 2.0's output is applied to the listening experience. Where previous generations of MoreSound Intelligence responded to the acoustic environment alone, version 3.0 integrates sensor data — meaning the processing adapts not just to what sounds are present, but to what the wearer is actively trying to hear within that environment. In a one-on-one conversation, it enhances the clarity of the person speaking to you. In a group setting where you are actively engaging with multiple voices, it maintains access to all of them. The distinction is subtle but clinically meaningful: the hearing aid is no longer making decisions for you about what matters — it is reading your behavior to understand what matters to you.

Styles, Colors, and Technology Levels

The Oticon Intent is available in two styles:

miniRITE R — A small, discreet receiver-in-canal device worn behind the ear with a thin wire connecting to a receiver in the ear canal. Oticon's smallest rechargeable RIC to date. Suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.

miniBTE R — A slightly larger behind-the-ear design for patients who require more power or prefer a device that sits fully behind the ear. Suitable for moderate to severe hearing loss.

Both styles are rechargeable. The Intent comes in nine colors — chroma beige, silver grey, silver, terracotta, chestnut brown, steel grey, diamond black, olive green, and sky blue — allowing most patients to find a shade that matches their skin tone or hair color discreetly.

The Intent is available in four technology levels — Intent 1 through Intent 4, with Intent 1 as the premium flagship tier. All levels include the 4D sensor technology and DNN 2.0. The tiers differ primarily in processing depth and the number of fine-tuning channels available — differences that become most noticeable in the most complex, demanding listening environments.

Connectivity — Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, and Hands-Free Calling

The Intent is built for the connected world. It supports Bluetooth LE Audio for direct streaming from compatible iOS and Android devices — phone calls, music, podcasts, and television delivered directly to both ears with low power consumption and high audio quality.

Hands-free calling is supported on compatible iPhone models, allowing wearers to speak into the microphone of their hearing aids during a call without holding a phone. For Android users, the Oticon Companion app manages streaming and controls.

Auracast broadcast audio — the emerging standard that allows public venues to stream directly to compatible hearing aids — is supported on the Intent, enabling wearers to receive clean audio from equipped theaters, houses of worship, airports, and conference venues without background noise interference.

The Fitting — Why Real Ear Measurement Is Non-Negotiable

A 4.9 out of 5 HearAdvisor score was achieved by an audiologist using best practices — specifically including real ear measurement verification. Without verification at the eardrum, that score means nothing, because no hearing aid performs on specification when programmed to manufacturer defaults without individualized fitting.

At Haynie Audiology, every Oticon Intent fitting follows a comprehensive protocol:

  1. Comprehensive hearing evaluation — establishing your complete audiogram across all frequencies before any device is selected or programmed

  2. Technology level selection — matching the right tier to your hearing loss, lifestyle, and listening demands

  3. Real ear measurement verification — a thin probe microphone placed at the eardrum confirms the Intent is delivering exactly the right amplification for your specific ear canal anatomy and hearing profile

  4. Counseling and orientation — walking you through the Companion app, connectivity setup, 4D sensor behavior, and what to expect during the adjustment period
