Oticon Zeal Hearing Aids — Freehold, NJ

The Hearing Aid That Disappears — Without Giving Anything Up

The World's First Hearing Aid That Does It All - Unseen

Oticon Zeal Hearing Aids

For decades, patients choosing a nearly invisible hearing aid have faced the same trade-off: accept a smaller device and lose the features that matter — rechargeability, Bluetooth streaming, flagship-level sound processing. The smallest devices looked the best and performed the worst. The best-performing devices sat behind the ear.

Launched in January 2026, the Oticon Zeal changes that equation entirely. It is the world's most discreet, complete hearing aid — a device that sits entirely inside the ear canal, is nearly invisible on nearly every wearer, and delivers the same Sirius platform processing, Bluetooth LE Audio connectivity, Auracast support, and second-generation AI that powers the flagship Oticon Intent. Nothing behind the ear. Nothing held back.

A New Category of Hearing Aid — NXT In-the-Ear

The Oticon Zeal does not fit neatly into any previous hearing aid category. Traditional completely-in-canal devices have been small and discreet but stripped of modern features. Traditional receiver-in-canal devices have been fully featured but visible behind the ear. Oticon built the Zeal to occupy a new space entirely — what they call the NXT In-the-Ear category — a hearing aid that combines in-canal discretion with behind-the-ear performance.

The result is a device that's extremely small, IP68 rated, and durable. In Oticon's testing, 94% of people who wore the Zeal with a rubber dome had a fit that was either invisible or only slightly visible. For patients who have been avoiding hearing aids because of how they look, the Zeal is the most compelling answer the industry has yet produced.

The Engineering Breakthrough Behind It — Encapsulation Technology

How did Oticon fit flagship-level hardware into a device this small? The answer is a manufacturing process borrowed from medical implants — specifically, the same encapsulation technology used in pacemakers and other precision medical devices.

Rather than building a shell and fitting components inside, Oticon lays out the internal components in their optimal configuration and encapsulates them within the outer body. The result is a device whose internal layout is engineered for miniaturization first — not adapted into a pre-existing shell. Every component occupies exactly the space it needs. Nothing is wasted. The Sirius processing chip, the lithium-ion battery, the Bluetooth LE Audio radio, and the microphone system all fit inside a device that sits entirely within the ear canal.

The encapsulation also produces an IP68-rated moisture and dust seal — the same protection standard found on the best behind-the-ear devices, achieved here in a form factor that previous engineering constraints made impossible to protect at this level.

Flagship Processing — The Same AI as the Oticon Intent

The Zeal does not run cut-down processing. Zeal uses the same core processing as Oticon's flagship Intent platform — the Sirius chip, Deep Neural Network 2.0, MoreSound Intelligence 3.0, and MoreSound Amplifier 3.0.

DNN 2.0, trained on over 12 million real-world sounds, runs always-on inside the Zeal — continuously analyzing the acoustic environment, distinguishing speech from noise, and delivering up to 12 dB of noise suppression and 6 dB of AI-driven speech clarity enhancement in real time. This is not a simplified version of Oticon's AI adapted for a smaller form factor. It is Oticon's full second-generation neural network running in a device that sits inside the ear canal.

The BrainHearing approach is preserved in the Zeal as it is in the Intent — rather than narrowing the sound environment to a single beam, the Zeal maintains a full 360-degree sound scene while giving the brain better access to speech. The goal is natural listening, not filtered listening. The brain receives the full environment and does what it naturally does — focus on what matters.

Same-Day Fitting — No Ear Impression Needed

One of the most practically significant features of the Oticon Zeal is how it is fitted. Traditional custom in-the-ear hearing aids require an ear impression — a process that takes time, requires a laboratory to manufacture the custom shell, and means at least two separate appointments before a patient can wear their devices.

Unlike traditional custom devices that require ear impressions, Zeal is modular and pre-fit, using a range of medical-grade silicone domes or optional custom tips for comfort and retention. Same-day fitting option with standard domes — two out of three people achieve optimal fit at the first visit.

For patients who want a discreet hearing aid and have previously been told the wait for custom devices is weeks — the Zeal can be fitted, verified with real ear measurement, and walked out with on the same day as the evaluation in most cases. Optional custom micro-molds are available for patients who want a more tailored seal, particularly for active lifestyles or patients where the standard dome fit is not optimal.

Battery Life and Charging

The Zeal is rechargeable — lithium-ion — with up to 20 hours of use from a full charge, including approximately four hours of streaming. The lithium-ion battery offers up to 20 hours of life and can provide 4 hours of use in just 15 minutes of charging, or 8 hours in 30 minutes. The portable SmartCharger offers up to three full charges on the go.

The 20-hour battery life is sufficient for most normal days. Patients with very long days or high streaming use should discuss battery expectations at the fitting appointment. The SmartCharger — which functions as both a charging case and a portable power bank — provides three additional full charges without a wall outlet, which meaningfully extends the practical range of the device for travelers and active patients.

Connectivity — Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, and Google Fast Pair

The Zeal is the most connected in-ear hearing aid ever built — and includes two industry firsts in this form factor.

Oticon Zeal supports hands-free calls and direct streaming on select devices. Google Fast Pair and Auracast: Zeal is the first hearing aid enabled for Google's Fast Pair, and also supports Auracast broadcast audio experiences.

Bluetooth LE Audio enables direct streaming from compatible iOS and Android smartphones — phone calls, music, podcasts, and television audio delivered to both ears simultaneously. Bluetooth in a completely-in-canal device was previously unavailable because the Bluetooth signal struggles to reach devices that sit deep in the ear canal. The Zeal's architecture solves this.

Auracast broadcast audio — the standard that allows public venues to stream directly to compatible hearing aids — is fully supported in the Zeal, enabling wearers to receive clean audio from equipped theaters, houses of worship, airports, and conference spaces. And Google Fast Pair allows compatible Android users to pair their Zeal in a single tap — the most seamless pairing experience available on any hearing aid platform.

The Oticon Companion app provides volume and program control, streaming management, and Find My Hearing Aids functionality directly from a smartphone.

One Technology Level

The Oticon Zeal is available in a single technology tier. There is no mid-range version, no entry-level option. Every Zeal includes DNN 2.0, Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, Google Fast Pair, and the full Sirius processing platform. Patients fitting the Zeal know they are receiving Oticon's complete second-generation AI platform — not a tiered version of it.

This also simplifies the selection process. The clinical conversation at the fitting is not about which technology level to choose — it is about whether the Zeal is the right device for the patient's hearing loss, ear anatomy, and lifestyle. Candidacy, fitting, and verification are the focus.

Is the Oticon Zeal Right for You?

The Zeal is an excellent choice for patients who:

  • Have mild to moderate hearing loss — the Zeal's fitting range covers mild through moderately severe loss in most ears

  • Want the smallest, most discreet hearing aid available without sacrificing modern features

  • Are concerned about visibility and have been hesitant to pursue hearing aids for that reason

  • Want Bluetooth streaming and app control in an in-canal device

  • Are good candidates for a same-day fitting without a custom ear impression

  • Travel frequently and value the SmartCharger's portability

The Zeal is not the right choice for patients who:

  • Have severe or profound hearing loss — the Zeal does not provide sufficient gain for these fitting ranges

  • Require a telecoil for use in looped venues — the Zeal does not include a telecoil

  • Have dexterity challenges — the small size, while discreet, requires fine motor control for insertion, removal, and charging

  • Want a lower-cost technology tier — there is one level available, at premium pricing

  • Have narrow ear canals — a physical examination confirms candidacy before any commitment

The Fitting — Candidacy and Real Ear Measurement

Because the Zeal fits entirely inside the ear canal, an in-office examination to assess ear canal size, shape, and anatomy is an essential first step before selecting this device. Not every ear anatomy accommodates the Zeal optimally, and this is a clinical determination made at the appointment — not something that can be assessed remotely.

For confirmed candidates, the fitting protocol at Haynie Audiology follows the same best-practices standard applied to every hearing aid we fit:

  1. Comprehensive hearing evaluation — complete audiogram across all frequencies, confirming the Zeal's fitting range is appropriate for the patient's hearing loss

  2. Physical ear canal examination — confirming candidacy for the Zeal's NXT In-the-Ear design

  3. Dome or micro-mold selection — choosing the right fitting option for ear anatomy and lifestyle

  4. Real ear measurement verification — a probe microphone placed at the eardrum confirms the Zeal is delivering the prescribed amplification for that patient's specific ear canal — the same verification step that produced the Oticon Intent's 4.9 HearAdvisor score and is equally essential for the Zeal

  5. Companion app setup and orientation — Google Fast Pair, Auracast setup, streaming configuration, SmartCharger orientation
