Previous directional systems created a forward-focused beam — effective when the person speaking is directly in front of you, but limited when conversation moves or originates from an unexpected angle. StereoZoom 2.0 creates a narrower, more precise beam focused on the voice ahead while suppressing competing sound from other directions. Critically, it now activates at a lower noise floor than its predecessor — meaning it engages earlier, in environments that are challenging but not extreme.
SpeechSensor addresses the problem StereoZoom alone cannot: what happens when someone speaks from behind you, or from the side? Earlier directional approaches essentially gave up on off-axis speech. SpeechSensor detects the location of the dominant speech source in real time and automatically adjusts the microphone array to provide access to speech coming from back and sides, not just the front. AutoSense OS 5.0 — 700 Times Per Second
Both StereoZoom 2.0 and SpeechSensor are managed by AutoSense OS 5.0 — Phonak's AI-trained operating system that scans the listening environment 700 times per second and adjusts more than 200 settings every 0.4 seconds. AutoSense was developed through AI-based machine learning, trained on real-world sound environments to accurately identify acoustic context: quiet conversation, busy restaurant, car interior, music, outdoor environments, and dozens of additional scenarios.
A study at Hörzentrum Oldenburg — one of Europe's most respected audiology research centers — demonstrated that AutoSense OS improves listening effort and is preferred for speech understanding compared to manually managed programs. The ActiveVent Receiver — Open and Closed, On Demand
One of the more ingenious hardware innovations in the Lumity platform is the ActiveVent Receiver — an optional receiver that mechanically switches between an open and a closed acoustic position, automatically controlled by AutoSense OS 5.0.
A closed receiver maximizes directional gain and speech clarity in noisy environments. An open receiver allows natural low-frequency sound to pass through the ear canal directly, creating a more transparent, less processed sound quality — ideal for quiet, relaxed listening. Previously, choosing between these acoustic properties meant making that trade-off permanently at the time of fitting. ActiveVent eliminates the trade-off entirely. AutoSense OS 5.0 detects the environment and switches the receiver's mechanical position automatically. The clinical evidence: ActiveVent users achieve an average of 10% better speech understanding in noise compared to standard receivers, while also reporting more natural sound quality in everyday quiet environments.

Audio streams directly from a phone call, podcast, or television to the hearing aids, delivering a clean, direct signal.
The myPhonak app gives wearers real-time control from their smartphone — adjusting volume, switching programs, and accessing personalization options. The app also supports Remote Help, allowing patients to connect virtually with their audiologist for adjustments and follow-up care without a physical office visit.
