Phonak Audéo Infinio Ultra R — Freehold, NJ
Phonak's Flagship Automatic Processing — No Trade-Offs Required
The Best Sound For You. Anytime. Anywhere.

Not every patient needs a dedicated AI chip for speech in noise. Some patients need a hearing aid that handles every environment automatically, connects to any device seamlessly, and lasts a full day without a charge — and does all of it without the size or battery compromises that come with a second dedicated processor.
The Phonak Audéo Infinio Ultra R is built for exactly that patient. It runs Phonak's ERA chip with AutoSense OS AI 7.0 — the same foundational processing platform that sits beneath the Sphere lineup — without the DEEPSONIC or HYPERSONIC AI chip dedicated to speech separation in noise. The result is a hearing aid that delivers Phonak's complete automatic sound management, universal Bluetooth connectivity, and up to 31 hours of battery life in a standard RIC form factor that is smaller and lighter than the Sphere devices.
What "Ultra" Means — The October 2025 Firmware Update
The Infinio Ultra R is the current standard rechargeable RIC offering from Phonak — the version every new patient receives today. The Ultra designation reflects the October 2025 firmware update that Phonak applied across the Infinio platform, upgrading the AutoSense processing engine, improving Bluetooth connectivity, and introducing the EasyGuard earwax protection system.
Every new purchase of the Audéo Infinio Ultra R receives this firmware pre-installed. Patients who purchased the original Audéo Infinio before October 2025 can receive the same update free through their hearing care provider — typically a two-minute in-office process that upgrades AutoSense OS from version 6.0 to 7.0 and delivers all the improvements described on this page.
AutoSense OS AI 7.0 — The Most Advanced Automatic Processing Phonak Has Built
AutoSense OS AI 7.0 is the centerpiece of the Infinio Ultra R and the reason it performs well across every listening environment without requiring any manual adjustment.
The system scans the acoustic environment hundreds of times per second and automatically identifies which of more than 200 listening situations the wearer is in — quiet conversation, noisy restaurant, outdoor environment, driving, streaming, music listening — then blends the appropriate program response seamlessly and continuously. The transition between environments is smooth enough that wearers typically do not notice it happening. The hearing aid simply sounds right wherever they are.
In its 7.0 iteration, AutoSense OS adapts 24% more precisely to listening situations than the previous 6.0 version, trained on 18 times more real-world scenarios. According to Phonak's own field study data published in 2025, AutoSense OS 7.0 improves speech understanding with highly rated sound quality in challenging listening environments — a meaningful functional improvement over the previous generation, not just a version number change.
This is the automatic processing foundation that the Sphere's dedicated AI chip is built on top of. On the Infinio Ultra R, AutoSense OS AI 7.0 is the complete system — and for patients whose listening challenges are moderate rather than severe, it is fully capable of handling them without any additional AI layer.
SmartSpeech Technology — Reducing Listening Effort
Running alongside AutoSense OS AI 7.0 is Phonak's SmartSpeech Technology — a suite of processing features that work together to reduce the cognitive effort of listening across different environments.
SmartSpeech includes Speech Enhancer, which improves speech understanding when sound comes from a different room or at a distance — a common situation for patients who have difficulty following conversation across the room or through a partially open door. It also includes dynamic noise reduction that responds to changing environments, preserving speech clarity while reducing the fatiguing effect of sustained background noise.
The tier at which SmartSpeech operates varies by technology level — the I90 runs SmartSpeech at full strength, the I70 at a strong intermediate level, and the I50 at the essential automatic level. All three tiers share the same AutoSense OS AI 7.0 platform.
Universal Bluetooth — Any Device, Any Platform
One of the Infinio Ultra R's most practically significant features is its connectivity architecture. While several competing hearing aid platforms limit direct Bluetooth streaming to iPhone or require an intermediate device for Android, Phonak's Universal Bluetooth connects directly and natively to virtually any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet — iOS and Android alike — without compromise.
The Infinio Ultra R pairs with up to eight Bluetooth devices and keeps two simultaneously connected, allowing the wearer to move between a smartphone and a tablet, or between a personal phone and a work phone, without reconnecting. Switching between streaming audio and live microphone audio is instant. Hands-free calling works across both platforms.
One-step pairing to the myPhonak app and connected devices — introduced with the Ultra firmware — simplifies the setup process significantly compared to previous Phonak generations. Streaming distance has also been extended to approximately double the range of previous Phonak platforms, which is practically meaningful for patients who stream audio while moving around their home or office.
RogerDirect is built in, providing native compatibility with Phonak's Roger remote microphone system. For patients who need remote microphone support in challenging listening environments — a large conference room, a noisy family gathering, a lecture hall — Roger can be added to the Infinio Ultra R without any additional accessories or adapters.
Battery Life — All Day, Every Day
The Infinio Ultra R delivers up to 31 hours of battery life from a single charge — more than enough for a full waking day of mixed listening activity including streaming. Unlike the Sphere devices, whose battery life drops significantly when running the dedicated AI chip in active mode, the Infinio Ultra R's 31-hour rating reflects its actual typical daily performance because it runs only the ERA chip without a second processor competing for power.
For patients who want a hearing aid that charges once overnight and is reliably available throughout the following day regardless of how many hours they wear it or how much they stream, the Infinio Ultra R's battery performance is one of its most practical advantages over the Sphere tier.
The device is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance — the same protection standard as the Sphere models — making it a durable, all-conditions device for active patients.
The Three Technology Levels
The Audéo Infinio Ultra R is available in three technology levels — I90, I70, and I50:
I90 — Excellence Line. The premium tier. SmartSpeech Technology running at maximum strength. The most refined noise reduction, the most precise automatic scene transitions, and the most fine-tuning channels available for individualized fitting. For patients in complex, variable listening environments who want the complete AutoSense platform performing at its highest capability.
I70 — Advantage Line. The advanced tier. Includes enhanced SmartSpeech Technology for improved understanding in noise. For patients who encounter moderate noise challenges regularly and want strong automatic performance at a more accessible price point than the I90.
I50 — Comfort Line. The essential tier. AutoSense OS AI 7.0 and intelligent noise reduction for natural, comfortable sound in everyday listening. For patients whose primary listening challenges are moderate and who want reliable automatic processing at the most accessible price point in the Infinio Ultra R range.
All three levels share the same ERA chip, AutoSense OS AI 7.0 framework, universal Bluetooth connectivity, 31-hour battery, IP68 rating, EasyGuard protection, and RogerDirect compatibility.
Where the Infinio Ultra R Fits in the Phonak Lineup
Understanding where the Infinio Ultra R sits relative to the rest of the Phonak lineup helps patients make an informed choice:
Compared to the EON Sphere and Infinio Ultra Sphere: Both Sphere devices include a dedicated AI chip — HYPERSONIC on the EON, DEEPSONIC on the Ultra Sphere — for speech separation in noise. These chips produce measurably stronger performance in the most demanding noisy environments. The Infinio Ultra R runs only the ERA chip without that dedicated layer. For patients whose primary challenge is severe difficulty understanding speech in loud noise — restaurants, crowded events, group meetings — the Sphere tier is the right recommendation.
For patients whose noise challenges are moderate, the Infinio Ultra R handles them fully.
Compared to the Audéo Lumity: The Lumity runs AutoSense OS 5.0 — a previous generation of Phonak's automatic processing, established and well-regarded but superseded by 7.0's expanded training data and improved precision. The Infinio Ultra R is the current platform and the forward choice for new fittings. The Lumity remains appropriate for patients whose budgets are more constrained.
Compared to the Virto R Infinio: The Virto R Infinio runs the same ERA chip and AutoSense OS 7.0 platform as the Infinio Ultra R — the same processing in a custom in-the-ear form factor for patients who want near-invisible placement. Patients choosing between these two are primarily making a form factor decision rather than a processing one.
Is the Infinio Ultra R Right for You?
The Infinio Ultra R is most suited for adults with mild to severe hearing loss who want a reliable, fully automatic hearing aid that handles every environment without manual adjustment, connects to any smartphone without platform restrictions, and lasts a full day on a single charge. Patients whose noise challenges are moderate rather than severe — who struggle in some noisy situations but are not consistently overwhelmed in the most demanding environments. Patients who want Phonak's proven engineering quality and the current AutoSense OS 7.0 platform at a price point below the Sphere tier.
The Infinio Ultra R is not the right choice for patients whose primary and consistent challenge is severe difficulty understanding speech in very noisy environments — the Sphere's dedicated AI chip provides a measurably stronger response to that specific challenge. Patients who need a custom in-the-ear form factor — the Virto R Infinio delivers the same processing invisibly. Patients who need extended Roger microphone support as their primary listening strategy may also want to consider the Sphere tier's stronger underlying speech processing in combination with Roger.
